SA965 vs SA182

Our client has a requirement for Forged Flanges according to ASME SA965 F304L. Is this same as ASME SA182 or there is any difference in manufacturing process? ASME SA182 is acceptable instead of ASME SA965?

No, the SA 182 flange is not the same or equivalent with SA 965. The mechanical properties are slightly different, the SA 965 304L has 65 Ksi ultimate and 25 Ksi yield strength minimum requirements, whereas, forged 304L under SA 182 specifies 70 Ksi minimum for UTS, and 25 Ksi for yield. Second review both material specifications carefully regarding applicable material specifications, like SA 788 for SA 965 and SA 961 for SA 182.

Hello. Chemical properties of Sa-965 F304L and Sa-182 F304L is same whereas UTS of Sa-965 F304L is 65ksi and of Sa-182 F304L is 70ksi. If you are talking about nozzle flanges then please note that standard flanges as per B16.5 of Sa-182 F304L is available whereas Sa-965 F304L are non-standard flanges. If you are talking about body flanges then both are acceptable. You can talk to client and ask for deviation if possible.
