Can we perform PAUT on process piping (Diameter: 6 inches, Thickness: 3 mm, material: SS-304). Is there a limitation of minimum required thickness for the case of PAUT?
What does the equipment builder say?
What about asking your LVL III?
It isn't can you do it, but can you calibrate and get a good S:N so that you have a useful test.
Rule of thumb is around 6-8mm as the minimum for any form of ultrasonic crack testing (PAUT is just a fancy version of UT). However, if someone does qualification testing on sample plates, and all the stuff that does with it, that value may be able to be reduced on a case by case basis. I've seen it used successfully on a round 3-4 mm piping. So basically what Edstainless just said above.
