What is ionic bonded coating?

Trying to understand comments on this board - What is an ionic bonded coating? Does it have potential to improve salt spray and cyclic corrosion properties?

I realize this may be a future technology and could be 'secret' but if there is anything non secret i'd like to try this.

Look for ionomers. Bowling pins are covered with an ionomer.

BillPSU, i'm thinking about ultra long lasting coatings for automotive metal products.. what are the pro's and cons of a ionomer / poly type coating?

I see a lot of patents out there but not to many 'products'.. availabe yet.
