We have provided a bridge beam over a 150mm dia surface water pipe as shown in the attached drawing.

It is buried approx. 2.28m below ground level.

The concrete sill (0.9m wide x 0.8m deep) in the attached drawing is designed to a bearing pressure of 50kN/m2

We have been asked if there is a need to bridge over this pipe at all based on the depth it is located at.

How do we go about proving that our loads are within acceptable limits for the pipe?

Your terminology is difficult to understand.

What is a surface water pipe? Is that just a buried water main?

What is the purpose of the bridge beam? What is the project for? What is the piping material and strength? Are the posts temporary?

Please add some details so that it possible to understand what the project consists of.

I guess your pipe is plastic material : Google "PVC buried pipe design"

The best thing is to ask the pipe owner. They tend to know more about it, than any one else but I have to say from the information supplied this is a massive overreaction. Buried pipes can withstand surface loading very well and at that depth most of the load is from soil above the pipe.

They're is a lot of information on this site if you search for surface loads or pipeline crossing design.

At the worst all you need to do is add a concrete pad above the pipe but 50KPa is nothing for a6 inch pipe. Settlement under the pipe is the only big issue to consider. IMHO.
