Can you change rotation on a three phase electric motor by reversing any two of the three motor wire connections?

Yes reversing any two of the supply leads to a 3 phase motor will reverse the direction of rotation.

Thank You,Radar. Duke Power

Just make sure that the motor and/or driven load are designed for rotation in both directions. Some motors have a cooling regime that is designed to work in one direction only.

The three phases are typically labled ABC and the rotation is determined by the phase sequence...A-B-C. If you swap two (any two, just two)the sequence reverses...C-B-A.

Suggestion: Yes. The motor as well as the load should be scrutinized for feasibility of such change.

P,

Swapping any two of the incoming phases will certainly reverse the direction of rotation however as advised by others here you need to firstly ensure the motor and load are designed for both forward & reverse rotation. The nature of the cooling fan in some motors is such that it only provides adequate cooling when operated in a specific direction, normally signalled by an 'arrow' on the fan cowling.

More importantly however is the load. Some driven machines, for example pumps, fans and compressors can be damaged beyond repair if they are driven in the wrong diection. Take note before making any changes.
