Thin Feature-Extrude

I have a some-what complex part that I want to modify the base feature (the first extruded solid built) from a "thin feature" to a "closed feature". When I went to edit the part the "thin feature" box was un-selectable. So I expanded "selected contours" and defined the inner area I wanted to extrude. The "thin feature" box was now selectable and unchecked the box. When I went to exit out (I hit the green check) of the "edit feature" mode, nothing happened and went back to its original state. I tried to "edit feature" again and the "thin feature" box was checked. Is there any way to change this or do I start from scratch? Does this call for an enhancement request?

I did some searching on past threads, but only found "thin feature" for a revolution.

I have never been able to make a thin-feature extrude unless I used that check-box at the time it was created. Unless I overlooked it, I don't think you can. Sometimes I was able to shell a part instead of deleting the solid and leaving the absobed feature.

Go and edit the thin feature and select the "Selected Countours" section and select inside the closed sketch. It will then extrude the inside area as a solid. I just did this on SW2006 and I know it was available on 2005. Just not sure about earlier releases. I hope this helps you. If you need further explanation please re-post.

Jon's suggestion should be what you're looking for. This sketch "feature" was added to allow users to make nested sketches at least three rings (contours, boxes, whatever) deep, while resolving the natural ambiguity of having multiple nested contours.
