I am an Ag Engineer and I have been tasked to review truss designs for wooden pole barn building in a agricultural setting. Is there a publication or website that can help me decipher all of the information printed on the small manufacturer design sheets. I know the basics like load values, EXP, etc but I need a better understanding of truss to structural post bracing values, for example.

I would contact the manufacturer who did the design.

The software packages for plated truss design are usually proprietary, and specific to the plates manufactured by a given company.

I have been on both sides of this issue, as a reviewer of shop drawings and as a preparer of shop drawings for glulam trusses.

I would require the supplier to provide enough information so that you can complete your review. They may resist because a lot of reviewers just look for a P.E. seal and don't look into it very much.

On the last truss job I reviewed I even verified that the engineer who signed the calculations was still currently registered.

As a reviewer I believe that the supplier has the responsibility to provided me with the information I require to complete a proper review.

Having submitted shop drawing calculations with pages of computer output, I know that most reviewers do not have a clue as to what the output actuals shows.
