Porosity of compound layer

I wnated to know about the phenomenon of porosity formation in compound (white layer)of gas nitridied samples.
Suitable references will be appreciated.

Why are you asking this question? Did you meet this condition? Porosity should not appear normally as a consequence of nitriding. Except if gas nitriding was applied on a porous metal layer.
