Hello,
I need to make an FE model of a small plate (Plate A) placed above another plate structure (Plate B). Plate A is attached with an I beam. I will give a load in the I beam. How can model this? Please see the attached image. Promlem is in FE, I can not create a plate which has contact with another.

Thanks in advance.
FE modeling Tool use: SESAM/GeniE

Regards,
Habib

What is the purpose of your analysis? Have you tried create elements above and below, and link the elements by rigid links?

Are you doing a macro-level structural analysis or a detailed component-level stress analysis?

suggest posting in the FE forum.

You have a load in the I-beam, which travels through plate A (a spreader) and is reacted by "plate" B … and you need to FEA plate A ?
or plate B ? (the performance of plate A should be measured by how well it distributes the concentrated load over an area of plate B).

if you Have to FEA it … isn't this a simple contact problem ?

another day in paradise, or is paradise one day closer ?

Seems to be a straightforward contact analysis. Provided, of course, that the software can do this.
If you don't know, why not simply ask the vendor that you bought the license from? And if it can't, that contact should not be to difficult to simulate without using contact elements.

The point of my previous reply is that there are many types of FEM. In a macro-level structual model, you would probably attack this using rigid links, similar to this: Link. Detailed FEM where you are modelling each beam, column and base plate with plate elements under contact is a whole other proposition.
