With reference to thread 1259-187602, UG-44 is fine but, if you have to check the reinforcement of an opening on a pipe cap, your only choice is to treat the cap as a 2:1 ell. head, no?

Yes. Don't forget to apply the thickness tolerance in ASME B16.9
