Sir,
In one generator maintenance manual, I read that the polarity of dc supply to rotor poles through slip rings may be reversed once in a year in order to minimize wear and tear of the machine. When I asked about it to the engineer in charge of the power station, he said that that instruction was according to an oral suggestion of the commissioning engineer from M/s Alstom and he does not know the details about the same.
Can anybody describe about this? Whether this procedure is good or destructive? I request for your valuable comments. Advance thanks.
With regards,
Appunni
