Insulation exposed to rain water

Dear all,

Our plant using a ceramic fiber blanket used to insulated steam line. During instalation the insulation was exposed to heavy rain water. The fiber insulation is severely wet because of that.

My question:
-should we replaced the insulation? what is the cause? Can we just put it in dryer to remove the water?
- some people say the insulation contain chloride that can enhance corrosion in piping system. It is true?
- could someone give me any insulation practice literatur?

I suppose that you will remove all cover and jacketing material before drying. Otherwise, there will be the remaining water accumulation.

The data sheet of insulation material should indicate the leachable chloride.

If wet by water or steam thermal and physical properties remain unaffected after drying.

The insulation probably has no chlorides.

Recommend that you contact the supplier for installation instructions.

You can probably just let it dry out in-place and then put the covers over it.
