Hello, came up with a somewhat stupid problem: been designing steel structures for some time, usually just using analytical formulas for bolted connections + FEA beam analysis.
Extracting beam moments, shear forces and designing connection accordingly.
Recently, decided to perform an in-depth FEA analysis on bolted joint using bolted connection (Solidworks Simulation Premium).
What I noticed, is that a simple fin plate to beam - to column connection transfer some of the bending moment to the bolted connection. Needles to say, this type of simple fin plate connection should mainly carry shear load as rigidity of this type of connection should be small. Now, the load per bolt is more than 2x (9 kN per bolt; load in the middle - 15 kN) as high as shear only. Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I have attached additional scheme.

what is your question I cannot follow your post?
also can you provide a drawing or a sketch of what you are talking about?

Its difficult to understand your problem with such a little information.

Solidworks simulation module has, I guess, limited capabilities compared to full FEA package. Check similar thread in FEA forum- thread727-492414. You may get some insights from that.
