EExd vs. Exd

Hello,
If anyone would be able to tell me is there any difference between EExd and Exd marks. As I found out, EExd marking is no longer in use and is replaced by Exd.
Also, can CE mark be placed on a product such as junction box in which unknown components will be instaled by the end user?
