Hello,

I have braced frame with column footings. I have 50 kip lateral shear. Both footings are isolated. I will check footing for sliding using soil friction and passive pressure. I will assume footing takes all lateral shear, slab on grade is not count.
Now question is to check overturning for footing i have to add moment due to hori. load.
Say my footing is 36 in deep. so i have (50kip*3 ft = 150 kip ft additional moment. do i have to count that to check for soil pressure?
Now say if i will add grade beam between two braced frame footing, then to check the footing do i have to consider this additional moment.

If you have a grade beam attaching the footings, then design the footing for axial and shear only and design the grade beam for the end moment of V*h/2.

And you do have to consider the extra 3 feet of footing depth to the bottom of the footing to get the correct soil pressure.

Lion,

Can you please explain design for axial vertical load and hori shear load means?
If i am understanding correct i will check footing for max vertical load and check for sliding against hor. shear load. I will check grade beam for moment = hori. load*ht./2 at the end of grade beam.?
And to check overturning consider min. vertical load (uplift)only.
Moment = pmin*footing width/2.
Thank you
