Hi All,

I need to do some verification on my modelling, by using the base moment and joint reaction from ETABs output. From what I understand, base moment is given at point (0,0,0), so now I will set my origin as center point, separated the Diaphragm into two sides, which is left hand side and right hand side as shown in the picture.

I use the joint reactions, Fz at base, which are extracted from ETABS output, multiply by the lever arm to center point to get the moment of each joint.
The result i get was LHS nett moment= +467991 kN/m and RHS nett moment = -96275 kN.m
ETABs base moment = -565138 kN.m

The point I don't understand is, why when we sum up the moment, which means 467991kN.m + 96275kN.m = 564266 kN.m, the negative sign from 96275 kN.m no need to take into account? Appreciate that someone can answer my question , an ETABs newbie [smarty]
