We currently have ABB REL 316 relay in our system and the challenge we are facing is that we cant get the configuration tool(CAP 316) that we can use to interrogate the relay to do post fault analysis. Can anyone please assist with the software or hook us with someone who can provide the software.

Hi

It looks like this might be part of the ABB relion series relays, if so you need PCM600 with applicable connectivity package, your best bet is to get into contact with ABB

The 316 series is not in PCM600 (since RE*316 is not Relion, too old essentially and in a legacy phase).

CAP316 doesn't exist, but CAP540/505 was/is used for the Swedish / Finish relays (500 series), while the RE*316 came from Switzerland.

I can check tomorrow if I have the RE*316 software somewhere. I should be able to find a copy. It's almost funny how many different pieces of software were released over the years for all these devices, essentially doing the same thing.

I have the DOS software to communicate with the earlier RE*216 series of integrated bay computer / protection relays, if that is compatible with the later RE*316 series. Have you contacted ABB ABB Baden? It was one of their relays.

Personal I feel ABB should have one connectivity software package for all its relays, It is rumored that PCM600 can manage the setting functionality of series RE_5_ _ relays but not the configuration portion as performed in CAP531. We also have older ABB DPU 2000 relays using WINECP and ABB SPAD relays using CAP 505. So this ends up being quite tedious.

A little awkward when there are two protection divisions, one in Sweden and one in Switzerland, who are rivals and reputedly bid against each other for work... unless things have changed in the past few years?

I think the single PCM600 with the separate connectivity packages is the best you're going to get. Since although the Sweden / Switzerland split in transmission level protection products is gone, there is still the division between transmission and distribution (Finland) protection products. And both need to hook into PCM600.

There's still room for improvement though.

Interesting. Who won - Baden or Vasteras? :-D

Depends where you ask ^_^

Nah, development has been shared between Baden and Västerås for a while now, only the actual product sales are centralized in Västerås. System sales is mostly from Baden, especially big projects.

Vasteras is von :).
Baden is system sales only and last "BBC" terminal REB500/REB500sys devolopment.
ScottyUK, REG216/RE_316*4 is phase out product :(. only special order.

Yeah the RE*216 was an old relay when I last played with one. Excellent build quality and very reliable, so not many of us got to work with them very often. I'm less convinced about its Swedish replacement - that seemed to have a few firmware / software bugs which hadn't been fully shaken out when I was working on them in 2007 / 2008.

Hi ptcabb, I don't know what the best way to do this is, as I don't know how to send a pm on this website, but anyway, do you still have the datasheet for the LI41a distance relay, that you posted in thread238-344766? Thanks in advance.
