lowest permissible temp for any material

i cannot find any information from asme code regarding lowest permissible temp for any given material to be used for vessel fabrication. Maximum temperature is available on asme ii.
Does lowest permissible temp depend solely on charpy impact or is it somewhere in asme code that i missed out.

Which code are you asking about? I will assume Section VIII Division 1.

For carbon steel low temp operation is covered by UCS-65 thru UCS-68. Basically, if you can find a steel mill that can produce the carbon steel with the Code required impact tests it's permitted. I have many vessels in northern Canada using SA516-70 with a design metal temp of -40 °C, and some even a little colder.

For stainless steels you should review UHA-51, but most can be used to -196 °C without impact testing. For other materials find the equivalent paragraph in the Code.

i think you right. The code doesnt specify how much low temp we can use this material at. The note e basically say as long as it meet toughness requirement of applicable section then this stress value is usable.
