hi all experts,
i am reading part 5 of ASME VIII-2, and find such sentence in paragraph 5.5.1.6:
Protection against ratcheting is satisfied if one of the following three conditions is met:
(a) The loading results in only primary stresses without any cyclic secondary stresses.
...
i've thought that i am familiar with the rules in Part 5 until now. i am confused with the clause. Through my work experience of so many years, i've never seen the clause is used in the FEA report. it doesn't make sense. the clause seems an easy and simple way for ratcheting analysis, but nobody use it. the manufacturer always tends to minimize their burden of FEA if possible.
i am quite curious under what kind of loading, would result in "only primary stresses without any cyclic secondary stresses"? only internal pressure?
thanks in advance.
