allowable deflection in lifting beams

allowable deflection in lifting beams

allowable deflection in lifting beams

(OP)
I am assigning load limits for various trolley beams in our company, and I was hoping I could get some input on allowable deflections for lifting beams.  I have had several sources tell me different things, but nobody gave me a reference to where they got their info.

I am assigning safety factors due to the allowable stress in the beams, however I think that there might be deflection limits that some beams are exceeding before reaching the maximum allowable stress.

I am very familiar with determining the allowable stresses, but not deflections.  Are the deflection limits completely subjective to the loading conditions?  Any help would be great.

Thanks

RE: allowable deflection in lifting beams

I don't know where the defection limits are.  I remember that the last time I did this we ended up using about 1/3 of the allowed defection limits.  Otherwise the beams looked like noodles.

You might want to take a look at this website for a little guidance. They reference a couple of documents.
