I am attempting to repair some impact damaged screw bosses on a cast aluminum valve actuator housing by building up the damaged bosses by welding, machining back to design dimensions and re-installing the helicoil inserts. I sent this housing to the lab for material analysis and was informed it is made from 380 cast aluminum with a hardness of 53 hr30t.

I have been unable to find any reference to this material.

Could you please inform me if this casting is weldable? What filler rod to use? Per what AWS specification? ANYTHING you provide will help.

Thank you!!!
