DC Motor Dumpening Solutions

Hi all,

I'm working on an assembly with a DC motor (24VDC, 30:1 ratio) where I cannot use a coupling on the shaft but still need to dampen the thing and I'm not sure how to choose the correct damper.
From a brief search I found this unit, and i was wondering if this type is a viable solution or I need to search for something else?

Can i find a handbook with rule of thumbs on how to choose the right damper?

Can you provide a photo or drawing of the motor-gearbox-driven unit showing how it is mounted?

And can you describe why you need damping.

The damper you have located is for stepper motors, to reduce their inherent steppiness (technical term). Your DC motor is far less steppy (another technical term). While it is possible you need to reduce the torsional vibration from your DC motor, that'd be an unusual case. What is the actual end-user problem? What rpm are you running, and which exact motor are you looking at?

You are not providing us much information. Does your system run at steady state, or is it an actutator of some sort? Do you understand how your vibration works? What causes it? Do you understand what we mean when we say "damping"?

Vibration happens when you have a mass, a spring, and some actuating force. Can you reduce your inertia and/or increase the stiffness of your drive/structure?
