Excel: dots in-between text

Excel: dots in-between text

Dear Expert,

Is there any tricks to get dots in-between text, in excel sheet?
Text should be left and right aligned as shown below.

Thanks in advance :)

RE: Excel: dots in-between text

I'd imagine you could assemble something similar using a chart with lines between the words (labels with text from cells and some vba to work out the length of the labels and dotted formatted line between).

But in a single cell I'd say no as you have no control over text positioning to align both sides independently, maybe in two columns you could come up with something that sort of looked similar, use concatenate to add some leading and trailing dots to each word in two columns, then justify left and right. Not tested, so results may vary.

You choose a tool that suits the need.

What you posted is a feature of a document editor like MS Word. In Word you can create such as described here.

But Excel is not a document editor but rather a spreadsheet editor. You can get part of your request using the uploaded solution which includes using a fixed pitch font like Courier New.

Variable B1: User supplied, min number of dots
Calculated in C1&D1: max length of data
Calculated in E1: total max length of Physical Characteristics

RE: Excel: dots in-between text

If the left word and lots of dots are left justified in that cell and the right word is in the next cell and left justified, it will look sort of what you want except the right words will be left justified. It does not matter how many dots over "enough" or how many cells there are between them.

If you can't use that, you'll need Skip's solution

RE: Excel: dots in-between text

Certainly, with the two-column option I noted you can get something that looks about right with some adjustment.

RE: Excel: dots in-between text

Agent666 - I imagine what is described below is the same as you used, but your instructions were not very clear!

In cell C2: =A2&REPT(".", $C$1), text is left justified.
In cell D2: =REPT(".",$C$1)&B2, text is right justified.

Copy down as far as required.
Adjust column widths to display all the text.
Adjust the number in C1 to provide enough dots (or just hard code a big number).

Wow too many experts! Really appreciate all your suggestions. Thank you all so much!
My requirement is exactly matching with the solution provided by SkipVought.
