The MiG29 was a 'lead sled'. The Soviets could not, would not, make it from titanium alloys... So SStl alloys were the only choice available for the airframe heating @ Mach3.0+... and very few were ever built. OH... and the engines were running so hot at max thrust, they were usually unserviceable on-landing... 'trashed'... after most M2.5+ high speed flights.
