I have been presented with two ceramic materials, one has a Vickers hardness of 1300 HV 500gram and the other is 2500 Hv 250gram.
Which is the harder material?

It should be the second one, but since they weren't tested the same way differences in characteristics (grain size, strength) could impact the readings.
Just remember, hardness isn't everything. Even in wear applications you need to know a lot more than that.
