Guys what filler would you recommend for welding 316 to A36. This is a horizontal position weld to be made in the field. The part in question is a 316 beam bracket for a new pipe hanger, Power Piping Fig. 200, that I am fillet-welding to an existing A36 W10x_. Should I use a SS rod or can we use something like 5P-Plus?

Thanks for your help!

Thanks!
Pete

I would use an E309 or ER 309 ss filler metal.

Use a 29.9 or a nickel base like Inconel 112 if you want to avoid any problems.

Absolutely, do not use 5P+ - a sure invitation to weld cracking!

Guys thanks for the help - I'll get the rod spec to the welder. Pete

Thanks!
Pete
