Welding of 1.5" Weldolet

Hai All,
I want to weld a 1.5"weldolet to 8" pipe. The welder is qualified in 8" pipe full GTAW. This welder can weld this weldolet? Code is asme sec IX. This is a groove weld not fillet.
Also thickness also need to consider?

Bonney Forge 1.5" Weldolet OD = 2-7/8" - Internet
Bonney Forge 1.5" Weldolet Standard Weight Wall Thickness: 7/16"
8" Pipe Sch Std performance - .644" WM Qualified.
