I need to weld some 1536 pipe for a structural application. I am having a hard time finding out what ASTM equivalent is, or what AWS approved procedure to use for the weld.

The pipe is 20 in dia with 1/2 in. wall. Sulphur and phosphorus are both less than .008

Fy is 71 KSI
Ftensile is 91 KSI

Carbon equivalencey is about .59

Thanks for your help

According to my UNS Bookwe're talking about G15360 Which is a carbon steel. Some of the ASTM #'s listed are A29, A510, A521, A576, A689, A711, & A830. For A521, which is a forging spec, but, the only one listed in Lincoln's reference, low hydrogen electrode should work. Because of the relatively hich CE I would suggest a preheat in the order of 400F, along with other prudent measures to assure high weld quality. I'm referring to joint cleanliness, proper electrode handling, wrapping the completed weld to facilitate slow cooling etc. For additional info I'd contact Lincoln's technical dept.
