Hello All

We have venturies installed on over feed and tailing lines (water or oil containing solid contents 10%-15%)and we use seal type D/P transmitters to go with these venturies. Initially we installed these venturie horizontally (3'O clock position) but then the sludge started to accumulate around the seals and resulted in false reading. Now we want to tilt the venturies at or around 1'O clock or 2'O clock position to avoid sludge accumulation. Is it a good idea or we will be compromising flow accuracy. Please respond.

Hello

If you tilt your venturi meters I believe there will be a difference in hydrostatic head that your DP transmitter will not detect. You can calculate the difference, and hence the error using Bernoulli's theorem for the two different positions.

shobi,

tough fluid measurement.

what is the diapragm size (od)?

are they flush mounted or recessed?

are you using steam or electric tracing to insure that tar build up stays fluid?

what are the pipe (and meter throat) velocities?

How did you determine that sludge build up was responsible for your measurement errors.

In high build up cases, we have found that the build up in the pipe was worse than on the meter. The pipe build up changed the meter coefficient more than the sensor build up.

Without having seen your installation, what you have is okay, I am more concerned about the possibility process/mechanical mis-design of the piping.
