Hello guys,

I have gone through ASME B16.34, ISO 5208 and API 598 but could not find any reference to pressurization rates while performing valve shell/closure tests. Does this mean that rapid pressurization of valves during testing is acceptable?

Yes. Within reason.

A black swan to a turkey is a white swan to the butcher ... and to Boeing.

The standards do not address pressurization rates as it is not relevant to the requirements in the standards. The standards state that the test time (duration) starts once the pressure, temperature, and leakage stabilizes. So any transitory effects from the pressurization rate must be fully stabilized before the test starts.

How rapid is "rapid"?? We need data / figures ?

5 seconds would be ok in my view, but what is it?

The volumes are very small so once you get them filled and all the air out it probably only takes a few seconds with a hand pump even to get them to 100's of bar.

Why are you asking?
