I have vessel with internals crossing the girth seam. My customer is ok with performing the UT. I have been told that I have to watch out because there is a code case that is involved but they could not direct me to it or what it says. My vessel is carbon steel (SA-516-70) and is 1/2" in thickness. For my NDE company, this is standard and they have a procedure covering it. Is there something special that I need to know about?

Thanks
JM

Jman69,
Code case is 2235.
I have Code case 2235-2 which states it must be on 1/2" or greater thickness and must be automated UT, not manual.
However I thing there are later versions of that code case, maybe someone else can assist.
Regards,
Kiwi

Actually this Code Case has been incorporated into the 2010 Edition of ASME Section I.

Thanks Kiwi. Metengr, you say it was incorporated into Sec. I of 2010, is it also in Sec. VIII?
