UCS-67(a)(1) Requirement

Good Day Experts,
We have a Separator with following parameters
ASME VIII Div. 1
MDMT = -29 °C
Shell 516 Gr. 70 Impact = Yes
Forged Hub Impact SA 105N = Yes
Elbow 2” 11.07mm thk. SA 234 WPB Impact = Exempted

UCS-67 IMPACT TESTS OF WELDING PROCEDURES

(a) Welds made with filler metal shall be deposited using welding procedures qualified with impact testing in accordance with UG-84 when any of the following apply:
(1) when either base metal is required to be impact.

My question is regarding impact test of welding procedure for Forged Hub to Elbow weld. If I evaluate this weld, it gets exempted as governing thickness is 11.07mm. Do I still require a WPS with impact test for Forged Hub to Elbow weld to comply with UCS-67(a)(1)?
 
The information you have provided leads to a lot of questions, but based solely on the statement "gets exempted as governing thickness is 11.07mm" then no, impact tested WPS is not required. If it is exempt, it doesn't require impacts.

Mani, you need to determine WHY your SA-105N was impact tested. I am reading from 2017 Ed, Curve B material at 11.1 mm has an MDMT of -25 C. Not -29 C. It appears to me you cannot exempt the ell per UCS-66 (a).

As the Code reads "...when either base metal is required to be impact tested..."

As I stated, there are a bunch of questions that need answering before a proper reply can be given. As Mike stated, why are these components impact tested? Did they need to be impact tested? Why is the MDMT -29C...is this chosen or an exemption temperature such as UG-20(f)? How thick is the shell? What exactly do you mean by a forged hub?
 
This is a little bit of an aside from the original topic, but why would you order SA-105N impact tested?

The following materials come impact tested to a specified temperature already, are chemically/mechanically almost equivalent to what you have currently, and may be cheaper than ordering a non-impact tested material with extra requirements:

SA-333-6 (Seamless/Welded Pipe)
SA-420-6 (Buttweld fittings, like Ells)
SA-350-LF2 (Flanges and forgings/bars)
