Hi,
I'm doing a very preliminary specification of a plant that will include a large evaporative closed circuit cooling system. Typically these are treated for corrosion inhibition and legionella prevention with eg phosphates and hypochlorite. I dare say there are lots of proprietary systems, but just for preparation of a very basic QFS, can anyone tell me what the dosage rate of these or similar chemicals would typically be? The water is fairly soft at the proposed location.
Thanks
Stuart

Stuart:

As for chemicals to control the growth of Legionella or Legionellosis, read the Wikipedia article at:

It has a complete section on that subject with many references to industry and state codes regarding the prevention of Legionnaires' Disease.

As for corrosion and scale control, my advice is not to try inventing the wheel again. Contact companies like Betz or Nalco or others who specialize in water treatment chemicals.
