We have an old structure dating from the 1940's that is made of "Type 322 Stainless" plate. We can't locate any references to this material in ASME, ASM International, or ASTM. Can anyone supply properties and composition for this steel?

I found a W-322 Precipitation Hardenable SS in Source Book on Stainless Steels, ASM, p. 394 (1976). Info source: Metal Progress Databook, Mid-June 1975.

W-322
Mfr.: Simonds Steel Div., Wallace-Murray Corp.
Typical composition: 0.07 C, 17.0 Cr, 6.75 Ni, 0.2 Al, 0.8Ti
ASTM or AMS spec.: no
Yield strength: 75,000-210,000 psi
Tensile strength: 125,000-225,000 psi
Elongation: 8-15%
Hardness: C22-46
Typical applications: Valves, bearings, rollers, cams, pump parts.

The max. strengths & hardness are presumably for the precipitation-hardened condition.
If necessary to heat-treat, first try to verify the composition; then, if no other data, try using the procedure for 17-7PH in MIL-H-6875H.

Is it possible you are looking for Type 332 stainless steel? Type 332 is a non-standard austenitic stainless steel as follows:
UNS N-8800, Carbon .01 max, Manganese 1.50 max, Silicon 1.00 max, Chromium 19.0 to 32.0, Nickel 30.0 to 35.0, Phosphorus .045 max, Sulphur .015 max, Titanium .15 to .60, and Aluminum .15 to .60.
The material is shown as available in plate, sheet, strip, pipe, tubing, and bar. Strength ranges from 25 to 35 ksi yield and 65 to 80 ksi tensile.
