Tear structures in ti welds

Hi Folks,

Is there anything to be noted from macroscopic images, in the difference of a tear surface between two ti welds as seen in the attached images? Or would SEM be required?

Sorry, I have no clue what I am observing in your attached macrophotographs. A sketch and/or brief explanation of what the macro's depict would sure get better responses then mine.

thanks metengr, these samples were subject to a tear test. sample 1 had a 20% lower tear strength than sample 2. I was wondering does the torn edge characteristics as seen in the image indicate any distinguishable differences?
