It simply a case of "Flow Dynamics", this will exist in both liquid and vapor flows.
You see it in residential home plumbing systems all the time.
You will also see it in both, large and smell Flare collection systems in refineries.
The 45 degree (branch to main line entry) connection tends to help the potential coincident flow in both the branch line and the main line to coexist. It also reduces the possibility of back floe restriction or blockage of the main line.
