Hi There,

I am looking for side entry mixer for a big tank. I want to calculate all required parameters for Tank sizing.

Can any body guide me how can I size the Tank Mixer?

Side entry mixers are basically worthless if you actually want any mixing. They provide little mixing. They are prone to leak. When they leak they are nearly impossible to work on without entering the tank.

I think I would rather have a nitrogen hose blowing into the tank.
 
I agree with ash9144 suggestion. Side mixer are only useful, if very little mixing is required in a big tank. Mixing is performed at low level, closure to pump suction.

In case there are any practical impediments against the fluid jet physical intimate mixing; and the only option considerable is side entry type mixers then,

referring to suppliers/vendors or manufacturers may result in multiple side entry mixer installations at various circumferential shell locations to obtain the required mixing(Although rate/extent of mixing remains very low, gradual; even with religiously changing each side entry mixer angle)

Side entry mixers may work OK on short & small diameter tanks (say smaller than 10X10). It is a poor equipment choice for tall tanks or large diameters. Good Luck if you really have to have a side mixer on a large diameter tank.
 
I am sorry I think I havn't explained properly.
Actually it is a continuous operation in order to maintain suspension of precipitate. I have data from vendor but how can I verify the calculations?
 
Does the vendor guarantee performance? Are they reputable? If yes and yes, why worry?

Yes, Vendor is reputed and gave me performance guarantee too. but my client wants us to check calculations.
 
Agitator design is as much an art as it is a science. You could get alternate bids to show reasonability (that's not a word) or get references from your vendor for similar applications. Have you thought about circulating the material to maintain suspension rather than a mixer?
