tand function in excel? 1

I found an equation in a Journal article and I'm trying to write it into a spreadsheet. The problem is 1) I'm not sure what the tand functional actually is and 2) Excel doesn't seem to have it as a built in function. One of hte footnotes told me it was a Tangent Delta function, but Google isn't being too helpful in finding out what that means. Can anyone point me towards a resource that explains it? Based on the explanation I'm hoping I can figure out a way to calculate it in Excel. If someone can tell me if it's hidden in Excel somewhere that would also be very helpful.

Generalized a bit, the formula is R = k*tand(C)

If that's all it is, then that's easy. Is there such thing as a Tangent Delta function? Is the foot note just wrong or something? I'm thinking I should contact the author and ask what's up.

I would assume that you could go through the derivation of the equation and so figure out where tand comes from.

Are you sure the delta isn't actually an angle? I've never seen a tanδ mathematical function - I have however seen plenty of δ angles in engineering text books.
 
Maybe the OP can post a screenshot of the equation and its context. Sometimes, that's worth more than all the descriptions provided.
