I would like help on calculating the likely thermal expansion of a gas compressor suction drum vessel during normal operation. The vessel is roughly 3mx2m and will operate at 26.3 barg and 43.5 degrees C. It currently clashes with a steel beam and i need to work out what the minimum acceptable separation can be between vessel and steel. My first guess is 25mm.

Thanks.

The thermal expansion will be a fraction of a millimeter in your working conditions: I don't think it is a factor in deciding the clearance with respect to structure.
Ease of installation (if the beam is erected before the vessel) may be of concern. Also the surface of vessel closely covered by beam should be not too wide, especially close to welds, for visual inspection purposes.
