For a stainless steel drum which haha UN 1A1/x1.8/550/11 designation, how much pressure can i subject that drum to? I know the 550 kPais the hydrostatic kPa but what can I actually pressurize that drum to in the field safely. Or is there a safety factor added to this number? (550kPa) There will be hazardous liquid in it. Thank you in advance

As per Sec VIII UG-99, the hydrotest pressure is at least 1.3 times the max allowable pressure multiplied by the lowest stress ratio(LSR) of the materials of construction. If the vessel operating temperature is close to room temperature, LSR may be 1, the test factor can be 1.3, and in that case, the max allowable working pressure is 550/1.3=423 kPa.

However, please check the test factor(and LSR); if it is slightly more than 1.3, the maximum allowable working pressure will be less.

Thank you very much. I will do that
