Hi

I use split feature very rarely and I haven't used it since we upgraded to 2006. Today I ran into this problem. Every time I try to use Split feature SolidWorks crashes. I even modelled a simple part with two extrusions, selected a face, clicked Split feature…CTD. I am running SolidWorks 2006 SP0, NVIDIA fx-1400 with the latest driver (not the recommended), Network Licence. I’ve tried this on my colleague’s computer and Split features crashes SolidWorks on his computer too. He’s running SolidWorks 2006 SP0, 3DLabas Wildcat video card. Has anyone else had similar experience?

Regards

Yes & nobody could figure out why that was happening with mine either. I even had my vendor tech support on the job & they eventually passed the problem up the chain to SolidWorks tech support. As fas as I know, they're still "working on it"... But my current installation is working fine. I'm pretty sure I was on 2005 when I had that problem though... Either way - definately call your vendor & they can jump thru the same hoops mine did.

EnOZ ... Have you tried the recommended driver? Did you have the same problem?
What driver is your colleague using for the Wildcat card? Is it SW recommended?
Can you update to newer SP?

Can you show us a pic of the part? It is possible it could have something to do with the features you are trying to split.

Do this and send it to your VAR

1. Go to 2. Download Filemon
3. After downloading the file, extract the files from the zip archive and double click the exe to start it
4. Type Ctrl+E to stop the recording
5. Type Ctrl+L to open the filter selection
6. In the Include field type *sldworks* (include the asterisks) and click OK
7. Type Ctrl+X to clear the screen
8. Type Ctrl+E to start the recording
9. Launch SolidWorks and replicate the problem with the Split Feature
10. Type Ctrl+E in the FILEMON window to stop the recording
11. Save the log file from Filemon and send it to your VAR.

Hi All,

I’ve tried this on very simple parts with only two extrusions. I don’t even have to select a face or a line, just selecting Split feature on my toolbar causes SW to crash. I found one part with Split feature which was, I’m pretty sure, created on SW 2006 but on the old hardware. Trying to edit Split, crashes SW as well.

I’ll try to get the latest SP installed. I’m waiting for SP4 because many users have some problems with SP3. I’ll also try the recommended driver for my video card. Unfortunately, IT support in my company is very poor, so it might take a while to get it installed. When they upgraded my computer I asked them to install the recommended driver. And guess what? They installed the latest. I also suspect that they didn’t disable Antivirus when they did installation.

My colleague is using 3DLabs Wildcat VP870 with the recommended driver and has the same problem. So it must be our installation, because the other users on this forum don’t have this problem. At the present reinstalling SW is not an option and I use Split occasionally, so it’s not a show stopper. Anyway, thanks all for your suggestions. I’ll keep posted after we upgrade to SP4 and the recommended driver.

Cheers

I use split surface quite often with no problems. I am running 2006SP2 with a Wildcat 990Pro.

Solidworks RX (Start, All Programs, SW2006 , Soldworks Tools) will do screen capture as well. It also identifies system settings.

I just tried this for the fun of it using SW2006 SP3. I was considering using the function on some future models. I used a sheet metal part (just a flat plate). I split it and then saved the 2 parts as seperate files elsewhere. I tried to open one of these parts and my PC locked for about 5 minutes before opening. I have loads of RAM and good recommend graphics card. I think I'll stay away from this for the time being.
