Hi all
First post in this part of the forum, so be nice ;).
I´m about to install a silicone hose between an air filter an a turbo. My question is: will the silicone hose resist the oil mist from the crankcase ventilation that is connected before the hose?

I know that silicon hoses that are coated with oil resistant material exists, but they are hard to come by at short notice in the dimension I need. So will I be OK with an ordinary silicone hose?

Silicone has a good resistance to oils but a poor resistance to fuels. Check out the likelyhood of any fuels coming into contact with the hose. Also be aware that Silicon has a poor physical strength compared to other hose materials.

Conrad.

Ok, thanks for you answer.

Silicone will swell in hydrocarbons, including oil. High viscosity will slow thswelling rate and temperature will increase it.

Silicone rubbers do not like mineral or synthetic oils, whatever the temperature. You'd be better off with either HNBR, ACM or Vamac.

Ok. Then I won´t take the chance. I have opted for an oil resistant rubber hose.
