I am designing a skid plate on which we will drag a 20,000 lb fan motor into a mine. The basic design will be simple but I am not for sure how to know how thick of steel we should use for the skid plate. We will probably mount the fan on C6 channel iron which will be welded to the plate. We will only be dragging it 1/2 to 3/4 of a mile on a remotely level road.

Thanks in advance.

We went with 1/2 inch plate and 8 inch channel. The skid looks good, we'll put it to the test next week.
