I have completed a seismic analysis of a structure and the client wants to know what the earthquake intensity would be on the Richter scale. Is it possible for me to give him an answer?

I know of no correlation. But I would think there might be one.

The codes are just looking at accelerations - so there must be some type of comparison.

Maybe a Google on Richter scales would give you an idea of what accelerations to expect based on the R number.

And don't forget the codes are only based on making a building "survivable" - in other words in theory everyone could walk out unhurt.

That said, the building may still be a complete and worthless wreck.
