In ASME sec. II there is no allowable stress shown for Sb-148 C95800. How can I find the allowable stress for the material specification SB-148 C95800 ?
Thanks for your help

SB-148 is a specification for sand castings, and C95800 is an Ni Al bronze alloy.

This alloy is not permitted for use as a pressure retaining item for ASME B&PV code applications.

As far as allowable stress, you are on your own and at your own risk. You have several different options;

1. Use UTS/4 or 2/3 * YS, and whichever is lower this could be used for allowable stress PROVIDED you are below 400 deg F in service temperature.

2. UTS/3.5 or 2/3 * YS

Proceed with caution because sand castings generally have inherent flaws, in comparison to wrought material.

Where can I verify that "This alloy is not permitted for use as a pressure retaining item for ASME B&PV code applications". SB-148 C95400 & SB95200 appears in SEC II Part D and the allowable stress are available.

If ANY material regardless of ASME/ASTM designation is not listed in ASME Section II, Part D Tables 1A or 1B it cannot be used in a "pressure retaining capacity" under the rules of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel code. It is not written, it is implied.

Perhaps I can state it better this way, only materials that are listed in Table 1A and Table 1B in Section II, Part D, Subpart 1 may be used for pressure retaining capacity.

Now, back to your original post - materials that are not listed in Section II but have been approved for use by ASME like ASME SB 148 C95800 can be used in non-pressure retaining applications.
