RISACalc Impressions

Back when I was at RISA, I suggested creating a RISACalc package that would do the basics of what MathCAD did. Just give a simple program for writing equations, formatting and citing equations in a WYSIWYG interface. I thought it would be great to tie into RISA input/output. But, management had no interest in the concept.

Has anyone tried it out and have experience they would be willing to share?

It looks like it is meant to compete with Enercalc, Tedds, Vitruvius Project, etc.

My impression is that RISACalc is more like a competitor to EnerCalc. A series of single element design modules or something along those lines.

That being said, most of the work was probably done after I left. So, they could have changed concepts at some point.

I may well give it a try for a month for $100 and report back. I'm already a RISA customer and RISACalc appears to have accomplished much of what I'd hoped to with my Kootware project.

It's a good day for software. I also got an email about the new MathCAD release. Apparently they have combo boxes again like they did back in 2010.

Looks to me like RISACalc basically is a canned calculation package with Mathcad-like documentation of the calculation process, rather than just spitting out answers

It's too bad that they don't have a demo functionality. I'm not ready to sign up for a month just to try it out, especially a 1.0 release.

I'd also love to see custom section properties (even within set shape profiles) as an option. Looks like it may be limited in that regard.
