Dear experts,

Is there any code states that if on the vertical joint of the shell plate on the same location there are more then 2 times repair, so that vertical joint shall be cut out.

I have an assumption that many repair on the same location will make that location is brittle due to many heat input during repair. This may be the reason behind.

Your concerns are not unfounded.
What is the shell material and thickness?
What process was used to remove material and make the new welds?
Is this a water tank or gasoline tank?
Is this a mission critical tank or simple storage in the middle of a field?

Dear IFR,

Do you mean it is depend on shell material, thickness, repair method and product to be stored ?

Let say : material group III, 22 mm thick. product to be stored fire water.

Repair method : arc gouge and re weld by SMAW till 3 times on the same location.

Do we need to cut out and remove that vertical including HAZ area ?
