Is there any mention of punching shear for pile footings? The only shear for this situation I can find is in section 4.4.11.3 (one-way shear at the critical section) but I swear there's a section concerning punching shear. Am I thinking about ACI 318 instead?

Check out the next section 4.4.11.3.2 "Footings on Piles and Drilled Shafts". In this section, the peripheral shear (punching shear) is noted. "Entire reaction from any pile or drilled shaft whose center is located dp/2 or more outside the critical section shall be considered as producing shear on that section". The critical section for this provision is measured dp/2 from the face or equilvalent face of the column in all directions.

Qshake, I think I aswered my own question. 8.16.6.6(b) gives information regarding shear for a two-way action footing. It never mentions "punching shear", but that's what I've heard it called in numerous examples.

Thanks for the input!

Sorry for the double post - I tried to correct the AASHTO reference too late!
