I'm pretty sure i know the answer but our designs have the bolt open to atmosphere to prevent SSC, however our products are painted after assembly. If the paint covers the bolts and the "open" atmosphere area it probably effectively traps the h2s correct? is there a spot in NACE MR0175 that talks about this.

There isn’t a spot in MR0175 - it’s all down to the evaluation of the end user. It is a little difficult to see how the paint will trap H2S at sufficient partial pressure after a leak (assuming that is the source of the H2S in the open atmosphere)

True, that makes sense. if there was any pressure behind it, it would just blow through the paint.
