I am having some trouble using the feature driven component pattern. I have used it in the past with no problems, but now it is really screwing up. I have a sheet metal part with about 20 holes, all the same size, and made with the hole wizard. I insert 1 pem nut into the part. I then use the pattern component wizard, pick the pem as the seed, then the driving feature is the hole. The problem is that it insert all the parts in the drawing, but none of them are in the holes...they are all offset from the part, but in the right location relative to each other.

BTW, I am using 2005 SP3.0

Thanks

Your initial part (that is patterned) is not mated to the correct hole. Mate it to a different hole and you'll see what I mean. It might take a couple guesses to figure out the correct hole to mate to (until you get the hang of it). As a rule I try to always make the upper left hole my first inserted sketch point in the Hole Wizard sketch and then mate to that hole. It works fine as long as I can remember which hole is thew upper left one :)

If you double click on the hole in the Feature Manager, the seed hole will be the one with the dimensions.

Thanks for the tip guys, that worked great. Kinda of strange how SW requires you to do it this way for it to work correctly.

CorBlimeyLimey,

So simple. All this time right there in front of me and I never saw it. That's a Star for you.

Thanks,
Ken

You can also hover your mouse pointer over the second sketch in the HoleWizard feature. If highlighting is turned on, the skecth will highlighted in the graphics area. This one reason why I prefer to use patterns for holes and not put all the points in one sketch. That way all I have to do is hover the mouse pointer over the hole feature in featuremanager and I know immediately which is the seed hole.
